Ahmed Yassin is the EU South Neighbors Program Coordinator in Egypt (EU Jeel Connect) and a Moderator of the EU Water Programme’s AQUA Dialogues in Cairo. He is a climate advocate and engineer focused on phasing out single-use plastics and reducing fossil fuel dependency in Egypt. After completing his B.Sc. in Electromechanical Engineering at Alexandria University, he now serves as a solar ambassador for SolarCity and works part-time as a solar engineer. He has also established SOLAREGY, a platform that networks with factories in Alexandria to promote clean energy alternatives to fossil fuels. Since 2019, he has served as a “Young Mediterranean Voices” (YMV) ambassador and founded the YMV English Debating Club in Egypt. Leading initiatives against plastic pollution within YMV, Ahmed has actively advocated for plastic-free zones throughout Mediterranean countries. His dedication to green alternatives was instrumental in realizing the first Mediterranean Green Transport & E-Mobility Conference. Ahmed has been recognized as one of the Top 5 Green Voices on LinkedIn in Egypt. He has also participated in the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Programme and the EU Visitors Programme in 2020. As an expert in the PONZA PREMA project, supported by the Anna Lindh Foundation and the European Union, Ahmed guided young green activists in preparation for the COP26 conference. Since 2023, he has been a member of Chatham House’s Common Future Conversations, as well as a European Union Jeel Connect country leader.
